Diptych: 36" x 48" plus 36" x 24" (2 canvases)
Oil on canvas
The painting depicts a woman and a man together but in very different worlds. The woman’s pose looks upward with open arms as if taking in the beauty of the autumn or carrying the weight of the mass of autumn leaves above her. The man, on the other hand, looks downward and keeps his hands in his pockets. The trees are bare in his world. I employed the diptych as a way to separate the figures literally, in addition to their individual mindsets. One might hope that the red-orange leaf that is falling into the man’s realm will unite the two somehow.
