I painted this painting to honor my childhood best friend, Pamela, when she passed away from metastatic breast cancer at the age of 52. She is the girl on the right in the pink two -piece bathing suit. We are about nine years old in the painting standing on the sand at Nantasket Beach in Hull, Massachusetts. My family would vacation there in the summer when I was young. Pam was confident, pretty and charming at such a young age; everything I felt I wasn’t at that age. I believe this is evident in the depiction of the two young girls. I chose to use a separate panel for each figure as a way to accentuate their differences.
